ISO 55001

Maintenance organizations have strived for years to improve their business, both from an internal drive of optimization and from external cost and delivery pressures. Pressures these days even higher with energy, safety and environmental targets. It is no surprise that the initiative that lead to the development of PAS55 is now taken globally into the development of ISO 55001 Asset Management - Management Systems - Requirements

Where does this fit?

With ISO 9000, 9001 and 9002 been on the market since 1987, followed by the ISO 14000 standard in 1996 and OHSS 18000 in 2000. It is a logical extension that the quality thinking enters also the world of Asset Management with ISO 55001, expected early 2014.

What does this mean?

It means that processes around Asset Management will have to be defined by organizations and they need to comply with this. Companies will experience the same challenges with the implementation as with the other ISO standards, timely, costly, and complex. When this lands on the shoulders of the “Maintenance Organization” companies will struggle to realize this in any given period of time. We have seen the same experiences with the implementation of PAS55, while being less demanding.

So, organizations need help to simplify this process, help that may come from an area well established in defining and monitoring processes, the Information Technology.

ZNAPZ with many years of Asset Management Systems experience and business partners in the area of Asset Management consultancy decided to develop an ISO 55001 information system, enabling companies to implement and comply with the future requirements in the easiest way.

There are three key criteria, control circles in ISO 55001 that need to be monitored:

The ZNAPZ 55001 module registers the processes using all available information from existing CMMS system and adds the required functionality. With the processes now electronically documented the ZNAPZ 55001 system enables customer to monitor the organizations performance and to automatically activate corrective actions where a deviation of the process is detected.

Finally the module enables organizations to have full support for ISO 55001 audits, with exception reporting and recorded actions on deviations. This should help the organization to implement and maintain the ISO 55001 norm in the most economical way.
